The History of Sandra's Florist

Sandra’s florist has been delighting customers in the New Forest and Waterside area for over 50 year!

Sandra's Florist is made up of a fantastic team with Sandra at the helm since 1968! Sandra's Florist has shared in so many moments and milestones with countless customers. Those all important occasions when only flowers will do. Celebrations including births, marriages, as well as the sad times when tributes can bring some comfort at funerals.

It’s not only individuals, but generations that have enjoyed beautiful bespoke designs.  Sandra has often created wedding flowers for the mums and then decades later the daughters!

Sandra’s first shop was a far cry from her spacious premises in Long lane, Holbury today.  It was in March 1968 at the tender age of 19 that Sandra opened her doors for the first time to supply flowers. Her 10ft by 6ft premises in Fawley village had a weekly rent of the grand sum of £1 and 10 shillings. Her parents and fiancé were a great support in her venture and assistance from her mum allowed her to juggle her continued floristry training, making the daily deliveries along-side running the shop.

The business soon out grew those first tiny premises and Sandra’s florist relocated just around the corner; the rent increase was considerable, now £12.50 per week, but Sandra saw business opportunities with the newly completed Fawley Power Station who soon became clients.

The team and company expanded with Sandra taking on her first trainee in 1971 and then further staff as Sandra had her son, Anthony in 1973, although she returned to work after just 3 weeks. Her daughter Tracey was born in 1976 who was also was bit by the flower bug – perhaps inevitable having quite literally grown up around flowers. Tracey has many accolades in the floristry world including an RHS Chelsea Gold Medal, she has travelled the globe working in many countries including Finland, Italy and Dubai.

Sandra has created designs for both royalty including Her Majesty the Queen and the Princess Royal as well as many celebrities over the years.

Sandra relocated to her current premises in 2009. You could be forgiven for thinking that after 50 years Sandra might be winding down – far from i. Sandra’s energy is only rivalled by her passion for floristry. Although she is the first to admit “I have a fantastic team, I’ve been so fortunate employing so many incredible florists” she goes onto say “I love being part of the community and I love coming to work every day.”

In March 2018 Sandra's florist celebrated 50 years in business her party saw customers and friends from over the years come together to pack out the jubilee hall in Fawley village, a stones throw from where it all begun!
